“Due to various monitor settings on your computer the colors of this piece may look slightly different in person from what you see on your screen, I try my best to make sure that the image you see is as accurate as possible.”

Fenrir:

  • A monstrous wolf, the son of the god Loki and the giantess Angrboða.

  • Fenrir is prophesied to grow so huge and powerful that the gods decide to bind him to prevent him from causing destruction.

  • They trick him with a magical chain called Gleipnir, made from impossible ingredients (like the sound of a cat’s footsteps and the roots of a mountain).

  • Fenrir bites off the hand of the god Tyr during the binding.

  • At Ragnarök (the end of the world in Norse myth), Fenrir breaks free, kills Odin, and is eventually killed by Odin’s son, Víðarr.

Hati and Sköll:

  • Two wolves associated with cosmic phenomena, said to be related to Fenrir (sometimes as his offspring).

  • Sköll chases the Sun (personified as the goddess Sól) across the sky, trying to devour her.

  • Hati chases the Moon (personified as Máni).

  • During Ragnarök, both wolves are foretold to finally catch and devour their prey, plunging the world into darkness.

Garmr:

  • A fierce hound, sometimes called the “hellhound of Hel.”

  • Garmr guards the gates of Hel, the realm of the dead.

  • At Ragnarök, Garmr will break free and battle the god Tyr.

  • In some traditions, Garmr and Fenrir seem like almost the same figure — both monstrous wolves bound until the end of the world.

Freki and Geri:

  • These are Odin’s two wolves (their names mean something like “The Ravenous” and “The Greedy”).

  • They accompany him in Valhalla and are always by his side.

  • Odin, being a god more focused on wisdom and magic than food, is said to give all his meat to Freki and Geri while he drinks only wine.

  • They’re less apocalyptic and more symbolic — emphasizing Odin’s wild, predatory, and kingly nature.

There’s a cool theme running through all of these: wolves in Norse myth represent raw, primal forces — destruction, hunger, fate — but also loyalty and strength.
